The mayor of Barceloneta, Wanda Soler Rosario, along with fishermen and landowners, denounced this Sunday the discovery of thousands of dead fish in a canal, so she requested the intervention of the state government to investigate the matter.
“We are concerned with the amount of fish we found dead as well as the stench at the site. The owners of the surrounding farms and fishermen contacted the municipality to alert what happened and we were able to corroborate that there are indeed thousands of dead fish. Our staff immediately contacted the relevant agencies to make the complaints, ”explained Soler. “The JCA staff who arrived at the site indicated that they suspect the death of the fish is related to waters that overflow from the AAA treatment plant. I call on the agencies to deal with this matter promptly since in the midst of the pandemic, we must avoid the spread of sources of contamination and it is necessary to know what causes the death of these fish. ”
