Hundreds of fish die in a pond, ‘a mystery’ in Sheffield, UK #Fish #Sheffield #UK

Fish Kill Alert

During lockdown, families have been flocking to enjoy the warm weather at open spaces such as Weston Park.

But one resident was concerned as he passed the fish pond over the weekend to see around a hundred dead fish floating in the water.

He said: “On getting to the fish pond we started to notice a large number of fish floating around the water edge, dead.

And also a large number on the bankings- many looked like they had been gutted.”

It is not yet known if the fish were killed deliberately or if a disease has ripped through the pond, killing them.

Visiting the park yesterday, Tom Peckett said there were now ‘hundreds’ of dead fish in the pond and noted that the water was ‘very green’.

He said: “I think it’s a combination of algae bloom because of the weather and pollution due to the amount of people feeding the ducks.
