Key Characteristics of the Revillagigedo Islands:

Location:
Approximately 300 miles (500 km) southwest of Cabo San Lucas and 370 miles (595 km) west-southwest of Cape Corrientes on the Mexican mainland.

Volcanic Origin:
The four islands (Socorro, Clarión, San Benedicto, and Roca Partida) are the peaks of submerged volcanoes, part of a larger seamount chain.

UNESCO World Heritage Site:
Recognized for their unique ecosystems and exceptional natural beauty, including the convergence of two marine biogeographic regions: the Northeastern Pacific and Eastern Pacific.

Revillagigedo National Park:
A large, fully protected marine reserve designed to conserve the islands’ biodiversity, particularly their marine life.

Unique Biodiversity:
The islands support diverse marine life, including various shark species, manta rays, and unique sea fan gardens. They are also important breeding grounds for various seabird species, including the critically endangered Townsend’s Shearwater.
