Magnitude 5.5 Earthquake Depth 10 km Strikes Northern East Pacific Rise on 19th July 2025

The East Pacific Rise is known for its fast spreading rates, which can be up to 16 centimeters (6 inches) per year. This is faster than many other mid-ocean ridges, which results in a relatively smooth and less elevated topography.

As the plates diverge, magma from the Earth’s mantle erupts onto the seafloor, cools, and solidifies, forming new basaltic crust. This process contributes to the continuous growth of the ocean floor.
