Magnitude 6.6 Earthquake Depth 303 km Strikes Samoa Islands Region on 24th July 2025

The archipelago is split between the Independent State of Samoa (formerly Western Samoa) and American Samoa, a U.S. territory.

The islands are of volcanic origin, with mountainous interiors and fertile coastal areas.

Samoa includes the larger islands of Savai’i and Upolu, and smaller inhabited islands like Manono and Apolima. American Samoa includes Tutuila, the Manu’a group (Ta’u, Ofu, and Olosega), and Rose Atoll.

The Samoan Islands are considered part of the wider region of Oceania and have a strong Polynesian cultural identity. They are also known as the “Cradle of Polynesia”.
