Magnitude 4.3 Earthquake Depth 15 km Strikes Dead Sea Region on 15th January 2026

The Dead Sea Region is a unique desert area centered around the hypersaline, landlocked Dead Sea, the world’s lowest point (around 430m below sea level). Bordered by Jordan, Israel, and the Palestinian West Bank, it’s famous for its incredibly salty water (making floating easy but fish impossible) and mineral-rich mud, attracting health tourism with sites like Masada. The area, part of the Jordan Rift Valley, is geologically active and faces environmental challenges like shrinking water levels, though it supports unique microorganisms and halophytes.
