Pollution in Peru increasingly affects the resources in our country. This time, three pink dolphins were found dead on the banks of the Huallaga river in the La Ramada river port in the province of Loreto. Artemio López Fasabi and a group of fishermen found the inert bodies of this species so representative for the Amazon.
“We approached because we thought it was a drowned person, but it was 3 pink dolphins that were floating lifeless, apparently, by the attack of strange people or the contamination of an oil spill,” said Lopez. Members of the Ecological Police and personnel of the Specialized Environmental Unit of the National Police also arrived to the site.
According to General PNP, William Rojas, investigations of the case will begin immediately. “We were alerted by fishermen about what happened and we made the minutes for the investigations. Likewise, we have requested the presence of the Specialized Public Prosecutor of Environment of the Public Ministry for the necropsy and to determine the causes of the death of the mammals that are in danger of extinction in the Peruvian Amazon, “he affirmed.
Although the species of pink dolphins is in a vulnerable state, organizations dedicated to the conservation of the environment such as WWF and PeruPro Delphinus found 93 dolphins, 60 gray and 33 reds along almost 300 kilometers of river, from Yurimaguas to San Lorenzo, which would confirm the decline of the species.
