The number of coronavirus deaths in Spain has more than doubled in a day to 288, with nearly 8,000 infections now confirmed in the country.
It comes a day after Spain went into lockdown with Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez imposing tight movement restrictions on its 47 million citizens as part of a 15-day state of emergency.
All schools, universities, restaurants, bars and hotels have been closed nationwide along with non-essential stores – a move some of the hardest-hit communities have already carried out.
