Magnitude 6.6 Earthquake Depth 17 km Strikes South Shetland Islands on 20th March 2026

The South Shetland Islands are a chain of 11 major Antarctic islands and numerous islets located about 120 km north of the Antarctic Peninsula. Discovered in 1819, they are heavily glaciated, volcanic, and rich in wildlife like penguins, seals, and whales. King George Island holds several international research stations, while Deception Island features an active, flooded volcanic caldera.
