Hurricane Polo Category 2 to Strike Baja California Peninsula on 28th September 2026

Hurricane Polo forecast to strike the Baja California Peninsula as a Category 2 storm on 28th September 2026

According to the latest NOAA/National Hurricane Center updates, Hurricane Polo remains a powerful storm in the eastern Pacific and is forecast to approach the Baja California Peninsula on Monday, 28th September 2026. Current advisories show Polo moving west‑northwest before turning northward and then northeastward as it heads toward landfall.

As of the most recent bulletin, Polo is producing maximum sustained winds of 155 mph (250 km/h), placing it at Category 4 strength. Gradual weakening is expected over the next couple of days, but NOAA states that Polo will still be a strong hurricane when it reaches Baja California Sur.

A Hurricane Watch is already in effect for areas from Punta Eugenia to Santa Fe, meaning hurricane‑force conditions are possible within the watch zone. Additional watches may be issued for the eastern side of the peninsula as the storm continues its northward progression. Residents and visitors in northwestern mainland Mexico are also advised to monitor updates closely.

NOAA reports that hurricane‑force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the centre, while tropical‑storm‑force winds reach up to 125 miles (205 km). Heavy rainfall, dangerous surf, and strong winds are expected as Polo approaches the coastline.

Forecast tracks can still shift, and the National Hurricane Center emphasises that conditions may change as Polo nears land. People in the region should stay alert, follow official guidance, and prepare for potentially hazardous weather.
