The houses along Jalan Empat are on a slope.
At least 15 feet of the road has collapsed because of the landslide although no injuries have been reported.
The landslide occurred at 1am and is believed to be caused by construction work taking place next to the slope.
Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) officers have cordoned off the site and will be there to monitor the situation.
“I heard a loud noise and rushed out, ” said Farah Mohd Noh who lives just beside the construction site.
“The contractor started work two years ago, stopped for a year and started earthworks three months ago.
“We have made numerous complaints to the council and they have fined and instructed him to build a retaining wall.
“I do not want to move, but I am scared, if the authorities ask us to move, then we will do so.”
A Selayang Municipal Council spokesman confirmed that the contractor had been issued with a RM 25,000 compound on April 29, following complaints of cracks from residents.
“We also instructed the contractor to build a retaining wall but before this could be completed, the soil gave way and caused the landslide.
“As a contingency plan, the contractor will place a sheet pile to prevent further erosion.”
The spokesman said that the council’s slope unit, under its engineering department will monitor the site round the clock.
“Once everything has settled, the contractor will have to build new retaining wall.”
