The owner of the Environment affirms that the cold decimates the population of the fauna in the lake of the Sports City.
Due to low temperatures, among other causes, there has been fish mortality in the Ciudad Deportiva lake, said Eglantina Canales Gutiérrez.
The Secretary of the Environment of the State warned that while they continue the low temperatures they will continue dying fish, because in addition there is overpopulation, he warned.
The state official also said that there is organic pollution in the place, so the lack of oxygen is also the cause of the death of this aquatic fauna.
“They will continue to die, while the temperatures are low, because the diffusion of oxygen changes when temperatures change in this way,” he explained.
Canales Gutiérrez considered that in this body of water there is an overpopulation of fish, because they do not have any predators that keep the population at bay.
This place is under the jurisdiction of the State Sports Institute and there is a proposal to reduce the population to a minimum, so as not to have this type of problem, he said.
He explained that the proposal is to move the fish to other places where they can live.
He added that it should be assessed if it can be used for fishing, because it is not known if the fish are suitable for human consumption.
“There is the proposal of a company, on a mechanism to reduce the organic load; will be analyzed to determine if economically that is feasible, because the mechanism must be permanent, “he concluded.
