A transformer on the roof of The Times building was struck by lightning just after 2 p.m. on Saturday, which caused a power outage and left one live wire down in the parking lot, according to Duquesne Light officials at the scene.

It was initially reported as a structural fire, but the Bridgewater Fire Department discovered it was electricity from the wire, which left a large, charred hole in the place it initially fell.

No damage to the building was reported.

Power to the surrounding areas in Beaver, including along Third Street, was also temporarily down, but has since been restored, according to officials.

Duquesne Light restored power to the building at 400 Fair Ave. just before 6 p.m. after nearly four hours of work.
