Power cut plunges London’s West End into darkness

Power Outages Alert
London’s Soho and Piccadilly Circus have been plunged into darkness by a major power cut.

The famous Piccadilly Circus electronic advertising billboards, usually a blaze of multi-coloured neon light, were left spookily dark by the cut.

“This is like, apocalyptic,” one witness said.

Others speculated whether it was a PR stunt to mark Black Friday.

Restaurants, bars and shops tweeted that they had temporarily closed until power can be restored.

“We’ve had a pitch #BlackFriday – No power in Soho!” tweeted off-licence Amathus Soho.

UK Power Networks said that “engineers are now on site” and have started investigations in to the cause of the blackout.
