“I only have about three feet left of lawn. It was pretty bad. It’s the worst I’ve seen it,” said Alex Avalos

Flooding is sure to get worse as we get more rain in our area this weekend and many basements are already underwater right because of the heavy rain earlier Saturday.
In some neighborhoods backed up sewers seem to be the problem.
It’s Groundhog Day in Burbank as residents dry out from yet another flood.
“I only have about three feet left of lawn. It was pretty bad. It’s the worst I’ve seen it,” said Alex Avalos.
For a while Saturday morning, several blocks from 81st to 85th Streets along Narraganset were almost entirely under water. One man and his son had to be rescued after their car got stuck in the middle of the road. Public works officials shut down the area for several hours while they drained the streets.
“It came down so fast our sewer lines couldn’t keep up with the water that we had. So everything just backed up on us,” said Kenneth Sanders, Burbank Public Works.
The problem, say residents, is that the sewers always backs up. And each time they’re left dealing with flooded basements and expensive remodels.
“Burbank should fix it because it’s costing me a lot of money. This is the fourth time my basement has flooded,” said Linda Wasczuk.
It’s so bad several people cannot get flood insurance anymore. A small neighborhood church had their policy cancelled after flood number three. Saturday’s makes four in just five years.
“First claim we had was near $150,000, and each claim after was between $50,000 and $60,000. And we have yet to finish construction this time and we have no insurance and now our cabinets are ruined and we’re trying to save what’s left,” said Pastor Jeff Urban, Harvest Time Worship Center.
With more storms on the way, people in Burbank and elsewhere are hoping to get bypassed by the worst of it.
