***HIGH ALERT*** GEOMAGNETIC STORM IN PROGRESS Kp Index is at level 7 Scale of G3 Strong Power systems: voltage corrections may be required, false alarms triggered on some protection devices. Spacecraft operations: surface charging may occur on satellite components, drag…
***ALERT*** GEOMAGNETIC STORM IN PROGRESS Kp Index is at level 5 Scale of G1 Minor Power systems: weak power grid fluctuations can occur. Spacecraft operations: minor impact on satellite operations possible. Other systems: migratory animals are affected at this and…
Airline passengers could be vulnerable to the effects of cosmic rays from the sun during a massive solar storm, a new report has found. The Government has ordered Public Health England to conduct an ‘urgent’ investigation into the repercussions…
Earth’s magnetic field has been a life preserver, protecting against relentless solar winds, streams of charged particles rushing from the Sun, that otherwise could strip away the planet’s atmosphere and water. ‘It would be a pretty barren planet without…
A new report presumably being optioned by Michael Bay demonstrates that Earthlings would have only 12-hours to prepare if a solar storm ever threatened our planet. The Guardian reports on the report from the Space Weather Preparedness Strategy’s fears of…
