Wildfire now at 300 acres in Cashmere, Oregon, USA

Wild Fire Alert

Fire crews now have a line around the Hay Canyon fire near Cashmere, but officials are not calling the fire fully contained just yet, said Robin DeMario, spokeswoman for the Okanogan and Wenatchee National Forest. DeMario told the Wenatchee World there’s still potential for burning material to roll out of the fire area on the steep, rocky terrain so crews will continue to widen the fire line.

Two 20-person ground crews were working the area Friday. The fire, north of Cashmere, is estimated at 300 acres. It grew Thursday from 200 acres due to backfiring to create the fire-lines, she said. Smoke will continue to be visible in the area as pockets of fuel continue to burn.
